White Lightning Ride has two options available, a 65 mile (Metric Century) and an 18 mile family fun ride.

Ride the Gravel! Tom Dula’s Revenge

om Dula’s Revenge features 50 49 miles of fast, rolling, and twisting country roads, including 15 13.5 miles of gravel, and finishing in true Flemish classic style with a submerged road crossing and a tricky forest road climb (there is a construction detour around Gravel Section VII).

The feedback from last year was overwhelmingly positive, and this will be the same route, but now starting and finishing at the Leatherwood Mountains Resort – stay in one of their cabins, and bring your family to enjoy a guided horseback ride, fly fishing, or a hike while you are riding.

Once again, you can also sign up for the non-competitive Gravel FUNdo category and ride the same course, or opt to skip the submerged roads and final climb.

For all the Details go to: Tom Dula’s Revenge

Also, the race promoter is in need of volunteers. He will give race credit for other races he promotes in exchange for marshaling Tom Dula. Contact: pirateraceproductions@gmail.com

Surviving the Snake

Looking for a great metric century ride?  Check out this friendly, low-key event in Mountain City, Tenn. – the third annual Surviving the Snake 100K and 50K Bicycle Rides, set for Sept. 14 at 8 AM.  The route covers much of the famous stretch known as “The Snake” along US 421, popular for motorcyclists, and includes Watauga Lake, Shady Valley, Backbone Rock and Damascus, VA.  It benefits the Johnson County Community Hospital Foundation as it enhances its mammography exam and waiting rooms.  There’s a discounted registration fee of $30 for TCRC Members, including on event day; just mention you’re with Tri-Cities Road Club so the volunteers can give you the special rate.  More information can be found at www.mountainstatesfoundation.org/snake.  Although online registration is available, it is not possible to get the TCRC Member discount online.  Snail-mail the linked form, specifying $30 because you are a TCRC Member, or register day-of.  T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for last minute or day-of registrations.
